Alpha Reportedly Preponed to July 3 as YRF Adjusts Release Calendar

Alpha, the upcoming Yash Raj Films action thriller starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, is expected to arrive in cinemas on July 3, 2026, a week earlier than its previously announced July 10 release date.
The reported change comes after Dhamaal 4 vacated the July 3 slot and shifted its release to July 17, creating an open window at the box office. Yash Raj Films has not officially confirmed the revised date.
A source quoted by Bollywood Hungama said, “July 3 has emerged as an apt date to bring Alpha to cinemas since Dhamaal 4, which was scheduled to release on the same day, has now been pushed to July 17. With no major release planned for July 3, producer Aditya Chopra felt it was the right date to bring Alpha to theatres.”
Strategic Release Window
The reported move could give Alpha a clearer run in theatres before the arrival of major releases later in the month.
A trade expert told Bollywood Hungama that both Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and Dhamaal 4 are scheduled to release on July 17. “As a result, Alpha will now get two weeks to make the most of an open run at the box office, especially since no Bollywood film is scheduled to hit theatres on July 10,” the expert said.
The release calendar for Alpha has undergone several revisions. The film was initially planned for a Christmas 2025 release before being moved to April 17, 2026. It was later shifted to July 10, 2026, and is now expected to arrive on July 3.
A New Direction for the YRF Spy Universe
Directed by Shiv Rawail, known for The Railway Men, Alpha is positioned as a significant addition to the YRF Spy Universe and marks the franchise’s first female-led film.
The project stars Alia Bhatt and Sharvari in lead roles, with Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor playing key parts.
Trade sources cited in the reports claimed that Alia Bhatt’s character differs from previous protagonists in the franchise. One source described the film as “a major turn for the YRF Spy Universe,” adding that the lead character is portrayed as an assassin rather than a spy.
“For the first time, Aditya Chopra is giving us an origin story that introduces a character that is more grey, more of an anti-hero in tonality,” the source said.
July 3 Clash With Baby Do Die Do
If the revised release date remains unchanged, Alpha will share its opening day with Baby Do Die Do, starring Huma Qureshi.
The coincidence has drawn attention because both films are centered on female assassins. Promotional material for Baby Do Die Do describes Huma Qureshi’s character as India’s first desi hitwoman, while reports indicate that Alpha also revolves around a female assassin.
Baby Do Die Do is produced by Huma Qureshi and Saqib Saleem under the Saleem Siblings banner and directed by Nachiket Samant. The film also features Sikandar Kher.
Alpha’s Place in the Spy Franchise
Alpha is the seventh installment in the YRF Spy Universe, which includes Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, Tiger 3, War, War 2 and Pathaan.
The film has also generated discussion around potential franchise connections. Reports have linked Hrithik Roshan to a cameo appearance, while speculation regarding Shah Rukh Khan’s involvement as Pathaan continues. No official confirmation has been issued regarding either appearance.
Yash Raj Films previously dismissed rumours suggesting that Alpha would bypass theatres for a direct streaming release, describing the project as a major theatrical title for the studio.
Directed by Shiv Rawail and backed by Aditya Chopra, Alpha remains one of the most anticipated entries in the YRF Spy Universe ahead of its expected July 2026 release.
