Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: Part I, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash, has collected ₹221.05 crore worldwide within two days of its theatrical release, overtaking Prabhas-starrer Adipurush in the two-day global box office comparison.
Released on November 5, the film opened with ₹127.50 crore worldwide before witnessing a decline in domestic collections on its second day. However, strong overseas earnings helped it cross the ₹200-crore mark and maintain its momentum ahead of the Diwali weekend.
According to trade website Sacnilk, Ramayana collected ₹48.05 crore net in India on Friday, compared with its opening-day domestic net collection of ₹64.85 crore. Its overseas markets contributed another ₹35 crore gross on Day 2.
The film’s two-day India gross stands at ₹134.80 crore, while its overseas gross has reached ₹86.25 crore. Together, these figures take its worldwide collection to ₹221.05 crore.
Ramayana overtakes Adipurush worldwide
With its two-day worldwide earnings, Ramayana has moved ahead of Adipurush, which collected ₹215.78 crore during the same period.
However, the two films had different release scales. Ramayana recorded 23,316 shows across India, compared with 16,120 shows for Adipurush.
The film also registered a strong performance across Indian language markets, although Hindi contributed the largest share of its domestic earnings.
On Day 2, the Hindi version collected ₹35.50 crore net from 19,859 shows. The Kannada version added ₹5.15 crore, followed by Telugu at ₹4.75 crore, Tamil at ₹1.50 crore and Malayalam at ₹1.15 crore.
After two days, the film’s domestic net collection stands at ₹112.90 crore.
How Ramayana compares with other big releases
Despite its strong opening, Ramayana remains behind some recent major releases in the two-day worldwide box office comparison.
Dhurandhar: The Revenge, starring Ranveer Singh, collected ₹358.86 crore worldwide in its first two days. Ranbir Kapoor’s previous film, Animal, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, also performed ahead of Ramayana with ₹236.01 crore during the same period.
Nevertheless, crossing ₹200 crore worldwide within two days places Ramayana among major releases that have achieved the milestone within or before their first two days, including Pathaan, RRR, Pushpa 2, Jailer 2 and Dhurandhar 2.
Ramayana targets ₹500 crore during Diwali weekend
The film is now targeting the ₹500-crore worldwide gross milestone by the end of its opening weekend.
Its release ahead of Diwali had attracted attention because Hindi films often receive a significant box office boost after the festivities, when family audiences return to cinemas. With Sunday coinciding with Diwali, the coming days are expected to be important for the film’s theatrical performance.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, who co-wrote the screenplay with Shridhar Raghavan, Ramayana: Part I is produced by Namit Malhotra and Yash.
Ranbir Kapoor plays Ram, Sai Pallavi portrays Sita and Yash appears as Ravana. The ensemble cast also includes Ravi Dubey, Lara Dutta, Rakul Preet Singh, Vivek Oberoi, Kajal Aggarwal, Saurabh Sachdeva, Adinath Kothare, Arun Govil, Indira Krishnan, Anupam Kher and Kunal Kapoor.
The first instalment explores how Ram and Ravana’s childhood, upbringing and circumstances shape their respective journeys. It also teases Sunny Deol’s appearance as Hanuman in the second part.
Initially planned for a Diwali 2027 release, Ramayana: Part II is now scheduled to reach theatres in 2028.
