Delhi Police has granted permission for Diljit Dosanjh’s October 30 concert at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium after reconsidering its earlier decision to withhold approval over security concerns. The show, part of the singer’s Aura World Tour India leg, will proceed as scheduled following discussions with organisers BookMyShow Live.
The clearance came on Friday after police officials met the organising team, which presented a detailed plan addressing concerns about security, traffic and crowd management during the festive season.
BookMyShow Live also issued a statement confirming that the concert had not been cancelled. The organiser clarified that permission had been temporarily withheld while authorities sought additional safety arrangements.
“It is clarified that reports suggesting that the Diljit Dosanjh AURA India Tour concert in New Delhi on 30 October is being cancelled are inaccurate. Permission for the event had been temporarily withheld, not cancelled, and the two should not be confused,” the statement said.
Why Delhi Police Initially Withheld Permission
The approval process had faced uncertainty after Delhi Police initially denied permission for the concert on Thursday. Officials cited specific threat-related inputs, security concerns and their law-and-order commitments during the festive season.
A report in the supplied coverage also referred to a hoax bomb threat email sent to six Delhi schools on October 15. The email reportedly warned students against attending the concert and allegedly contained pro-Khalistani slogans, according to a senior police official cited in the report.
The available reports do not establish that the email directly led to the initial decision. Police subsequently reconsidered the concert request after discussions with the organisers.
BookMyShow Live Assures Compliance With Safety Measures
BookMyShow Live said Delhi Police had requested additional arrangements covering safety, traffic and crowd management in view of the festive season.
The organiser said it had presented a detailed plan and assured authorities of full compliance with security and traffic requirements. The measures also include arrangements involving private security personnel and crowd management.
“On that basis, permission for the event has been reconsidered and issued,” BookMyShow Live said, adding that it would work with Delhi Police to provide a good experience for concertgoers while minimising disruption for local commuters.
The clarification followed reports that the concert might be cancelled, prompting uncertainty among fans awaiting the Delhi performance.
Diljit Dosanjh Reacts to the Concert Controversy
Diljit responded to the confusion surrounding the concert with a humorous video shared with fans. Taking a dig at social media posts, viral reels and newsroom discussions about the show’s status, the singer urged people to establish the facts before reaching conclusions.
“Main ye bol raha tha ki ban gayi reels, ban gaye tweets, ho gayi aapki newsroom ki debates. Ab milte hain 30 tareekh ko Delhi mein. Pehle news pata kar liya karo, kacha dhuan maare jaa rahe ho. Kacha dhuan maarne se achha hai pehle baat pata kar liya karein,” he said.
The singer’s remarks came after the initial denial of permission generated speculation about whether the October 30 event would take place.
The decision also drew criticism from AAP Delhi chief Saurabh Bharadwaj, who alleged that the government was biased against “brave Punjabis”. He also referred to Diljit’s support for the farmers’ movement and alleged that the singer’s film Sutlej had previously been banned.
Aura World Tour India Leg to Begin in Delhi
The Delhi concert is scheduled to kick off the India leg of Diljit’s Aura World Tour. The announced itinerary includes Indore on November 15, Ahmedabad on November 21, Mumbai on November 27, Bengaluru on November 29 and Lucknow on December 5. A Chandigarh show has also been announced, although its date and other details were not specified in the supplied reports.
The singer has performed across North America, Europe and Australia as part of his wider tour. His previous India tour, the Dil-Luminati Tour, took place in 2024 and included performances in several major cities.
With Delhi Police now having granted permission after reviewing the organisers’ plans, the October 30 concert remains scheduled to take place at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
