Dhurandhar 3 Buzz Addressed: Rakesh Bedi Shares Update on Future of Franchise

As calls for a third installment of the blockbuster spy franchise grow louder, actor Rakesh Bedi has addressed speculation around Dhurandhar 3. The veteran actor, who plays Jameel Jamali in the series, shared his perspective in a recent interview, tempering expectations despite strong fan demand.
“I don’t think a third part will happen,” Bedi said, adding, “But Dhurandhar is a franchise, and it can be made with some other actors at any given point of time. The story ends with the spy going back to his nation.”
A Franchise Fueled by Massive Success
Directed by Aditya Dhar and led by Ranveer Singh, the Dhurandhar films have emerged as one of Bollywood’s most successful recent franchises.
The first installment, Dhurandhar (2025), earned around ₹1,300 crore worldwide and received both critical and commercial acclaim. Its sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge (2026), went on to break multiple records, including becoming the first Hindi film to cross ₹1,100 crore domestically. The sequel has grossed over ₹1,700 crore globally, with the franchise collectively crossing ₹3,000 crore worldwide.
Despite competition from releases like Bhooth Bangla starring Akshay Kumar, the sequel continues to perform steadily at the box office weeks after release.
Inside the Story and Characters
Set in early 2000s Pakistan, the Dhurandhar series follows an Indian spy navigating the volatile underworld of Karachi’s Lyari region. Ranveer Singh plays Hamza, also known as Jaskirat Singh Rangi, who infiltrates criminal networks and works to dismantle terror operations targeting India.
The sequel expands on the character’s origins and motivations while advancing the narrative of power struggles and espionage. The films also feature an ensemble cast including Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, and Sara Arjun.
Rakesh Bedi on His Role and Fan Response
Rakesh Bedi’s character, Jameel Jamali, became a standout in the sequel, particularly due to a major twist revealing him as an Indian spy operating in Pakistan. Reflecting on the moment, Bedi said,
“It was a highlight for the audience, but for us, it was like just another scene. We knew that it would create a ripple.”
He also noted how the success of the first film shaped audience expectations for the sequel.
“You are going to see a film with the mindset that it is a great film because its prequel was also great… Now, the audience is seeking to watch part 3.”
The actor’s popular dialogue, “Bachcha hai tu mera,” has also gained traction among fans, further boosting the character’s popularity.
Future of the Franchise
While fan demand for Dhurandhar 3 remains strong, Bedi’s comments suggest that the current storyline may have reached a natural conclusion. However, he acknowledged that the franchise format leaves room for potential future adaptations with different characters or narratives.
