Bandhu 2.0 From Cocktail 2 Receives Mixed Reactions After Release

The makers of Cocktail 2 have released Bandhu 2.0, a reimagined version of the popular song Tum Hi Ho Bandhu from the 2012 film Cocktail. Featuring Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna, the track has generated extensive discussion online, with audiences divided over the updated take on the beloved original.

The recreated song retains the core melody and spirit of the original while introducing new visuals and a contemporary presentation. Its release comes ahead of Cocktail 2, which is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on June 19, 2026.

A Familiar Song Gets a New Look

The promotional video for Bandhu 2.0 opens with a light-hearted exchange acknowledging the risks of recreating an iconic song. In one moment, Shahid Kapoor jokes about the possibility of being trolled for revisiting a classic track, a reference that many viewers quickly picked up on after the song’s release.

The new version features Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna stepping into a space once occupied by Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty in the original Cocktail.

Music for Bandhu 2.0 is composed by Pritam, while Kavita Seth and Neeraj Shridhar return as the voices behind the song. The lyrics are written by Irshad Kamil.

Internet Split Over the Recreation

Audience reactions have ranged from praise to criticism.

Many listeners appreciated the decision to preserve the essence of the original track. One viewer commented, “Love that they didn’t destroy the song by adding different verses and rap and changing the singers. They kept the spirit of the original song alive, while adding their own flavour to it. This is how you do it.”

Another fan praised the promotional approach, writing, “That’s how u recreate a song without destroying its original vibe. This looks a sure shot hit for Shahid!”

Others welcomed the nostalgic feel of the song while noting that the original version remains difficult to replace.

Critics, however, questioned both the musical additions and visual presentation. One social media user described the track as “literally minus aura,” while another wrote, “The added beats are unnecessary and atrocious; the visuals and dance steps are even worse.”

The visual effects and backgrounds emerged as a recurring point of criticism, with some viewers calling parts of the song overly artificial.

Several online users also focused on the film’s self-aware marketing strategy. One comment read, “Looks like this was planned at the last minute to create buzz. Also, we are in an era where Bollywood trolls itself so that the audience doesn’t troll them.”

Revisiting a Cocktail Classic

*Tum Hi Ho Bandhu* became one of the defining songs of Cocktail and remains popular among audiences more than a decade after the film’s release. The original track featured Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty and developed a strong following for its celebration of friendship, romance and carefree living.

The new version seeks to carry that spirit forward for a different generation while introducing the lead trio of Cocktail 2.
