Ajay Devgn has said that the pressure of a film release never completely goes away, even after decades in the industry, as the makers unveiled the trailer of Dhamaal 4. The actor also shared his thoughts on why some Bollywood franchises continue to resonate with audiences, pointing to the strong connection viewers develop with recurring characters.

Speaking at the trailer launch event, Devgn acknowledged that every release brings a degree of nervousness.

“Thoda bahut toh rehta hai. Aapne itni mehnat ki hai toh film audience ko pasand aani chahiye aur chalni chahiye. Toh koshish toh yahi rehti hai ki film aisi banaye ki logon ko pasand aaye. Toh jab film release ho rahi hoti hai toh thoda pressure mein sab hi aate hain,” he said.

The actor also explained what, in his view, makes sequels successful.

“I think sequel tabhi work karta hai jab uske characters logon ko pasand aajaye. Chahe yeh (Dhamaal 4) le lijiye, Golmaal le lijiye. Woh characters ko naam se jaante hain. Ek baar characters ke saath audience jud jaati hai na toh we can take the story forward,” Devgn said.

Trailer teases another treasure hunt adventure

Directed by Indra Kumar, Dhamaal 4 reunites the franchise’s core cast, including Ajay Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi, Jaaved Jaaferi and Sanjay Mishra. The film also features Esha Gupta, Ravi Kishan, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Anjali Anand, Upendra Limaye and Vijay Patkar.

The trailer follows the familiar formula that made the series popular, with the gang setting off on what is described as their biggest treasure hunt yet. Their pursuit of a mountain of gold quickly spirals into a series of comic misadventures, unexpected twists and escalating chaos as multiple characters race to claim the prize.

The trailer launch itself was staged at Imagicaa, where the makers created an immersive experience inspired by the film’s adventure-driven storyline.

Arshad Warsi shares behind-the-scenes details

One of the standout moments in the trailer is a cliff-side sequence that drew attention during the launch event. Arshad Warsi revealed that the scene was filmed on a real location rather than being created through computer-generated imagery.

“Watch out for the cliff sequence. Woh kabhi dhyaan se dekhna. It’s very dangerous. All thanks to my friend,” Warsi said while gesturing toward Devgn.

Devgn confirmed that it was “a live location,” while Warsi added, “You might feel it’s CG, but it’s not. It’s all real.”

Jaaved Jaaferi said the cast performed the sequence while secured with cables on an actual hill. The scene was shot in Maharashtra’s Malshej Ghat, according to the team.

Director Indra Kumar credited Devgn’s involvement during the action schedule, saying the actor contributed significantly to several sequences. Ravi Kishan also praised Devgn for helping shape his character and assisting with action scenes during production.

Warsi further revealed that a stunt schedule initially expected to take between 15 and 20 days was completed far more quickly. After first estimating five days, he was corrected by Jaaved Jaaferi, who said the team completed the demanding schedule in just three days.

Fourth chapter of a successful comedy franchise

The Dhamaal franchise began with the release of Dhamaal in 2007, followed by Double Dhamaal in 2011. Total Dhamaal, released later, marked Ajay Devgn’s entry into the series. All three films achieved commercial success and helped establish the franchise as one of Bollywood’s most recognizable comedy brands.

Presented by T-Series in association with Devgn Films, Maruti International and Panorama Studios, Dhamaal 4 is produced by Ajay Devgn, Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Ashok Thakeria, Indra Kumar, Anand Pandit and Kumar Mangat Pathak.

Dhamaal 4 is scheduled to release in cinemas on July 10, 2026.
