Rakul Preet Singh has rejected reports linking her to an Income Tax Department search and denied allegations involving illegal foreign remittances or benami properties.

The actor addressed the reports in a statement shared on social media nearly a week after searches were reportedly conducted at 12 locations linked to the film industry. Rakul said the search “was not pertaining to me” and objected to what she described as sensationalised and speculative reporting.

“It’s heartbreaking to see that there’s a growing trend amongst the self-styled online reporters & some mainstream media journalists to sensationalise the news without verifying facts,” she wrote.

Rakul said she had built her career without a “Godfather” in the industry and highlighted her Armed Forces background. She also said she had been paying her taxes since the age of 20.

The actor specifically denied any involvement in illegal foreign remittances, either personally or on behalf of a production house.

“I am not involved in any kind of illegal foreign remittance in personal capacity or on behalf of any Production house,” she wrote.

She also rejected reports that she held benami property in India or abroad, adding that nobody had gifted her property.

“I do not hold any Benami property on behalf of anyone anywhere in the country or abroad,” Rakul said. “Neither ANYONE has EVER gifted me any property at anytime nor do I accept such expensive gifts as a principle.”

Rakul seeks retraction of reports

Rakul also called on publications that had linked her directly to the reported searches to retract what she described as false and malicious reports.

“I urge all those who published these false, malicious and speculative reports to retract them and clarify the facts,” she wrote.

She acknowledged the commercial pressures faced by media organisations but said those pressures should not come at the expense of accuracy or a person’s reputation and livelihood.

The reports about the searches said the Mumbai Income Tax Department had begun an investigation into suspected fund irregularities. According to the material provided, investigators were examining documents, financial records and alleged overseas transactions, with claims that funds were being routed abroad under the guise of financing film projects.

The reports also said the searches were conducted at 12 locations on September 28. The material does not establish that Rakul was personally the subject of those searches, and the actor has expressly denied such a connection.

Rakul was last seen in Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, according to the supplied reports. She is also set to play Shurpanakha in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, alongside Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash.
