At the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, actor Alia Bhatt revealed that one of her favourite homemade snacks — made with ghee, jaggery, crushed peanuts and coconut — plays an important role in her skincare and wellness routine. Speaking to Marie Claire France during the festival, Bhatt said the traditional combination supports both gut health and skin health.

“Ghee! We cook our food in ghee, at least in my home,” Alia said during the interview. “It’s great for the gut, it’s great for the skin.”

The actor described the mixture as a “skin snack that really works,” adding that she regularly eats it to help maintain healthy-looking skin. Her comments quickly sparked discussion online, particularly among audiences interested in nutrition-led skincare and traditional Indian dietary practices.

Why experts say ghee may support skin health

Nutrition experts cited in various reports said there is scientific reasoning behind the ingredients in Bhatt’s snack, particularly ghee. Widely used in Indian cooking, ghee is rich in healthy fats and contains fat-soluble vitamins such as A, D, E and K, which are associated with skin hydration, elasticity and cellular repair.

Experts also pointed to ghee’s butyric acid content, a short-chain fatty acid believed to support gut lining health and digestion. Since gut health is closely linked to inflammation and certain skin concerns, including acne and dryness, maintaining digestive health may indirectly improve skin appearance.

Some nutritionists noted that moderate consumption of ghee may also help the body absorb essential nutrients more effectively because of its fat content.

The nutritional value of Alia Bhatt’s snack

Bhatt’s homemade snack combines several nutrient-dense ingredients commonly found in Indian kitchens:

Ghee provides healthy fats that support nutrient absorption and skin nourishment
Jaggery contains trace minerals and antioxidants compared to refined sugar
Peanuts offer protein, vitamin E, biotin and healthy fats associated with skin repair
Coconut contributes healthy fats, fibre and compounds linked to hydration support

Experts said the combination creates an energy-rich snack that can complement a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle.

Traditional ingredients in modern wellness conversations

Bhatt’s remarks also renewed interest in traditional Indian food practices, particularly the growing popularity of “beauty from within” approaches that focus on nutrition alongside skincare products and cosmetic treatments.

During the same conversation, the actor said food in her home is regularly cooked using ghee, a staple ingredient in many Indian households. She also spoke about her interest in filmmaking and storytelling while attending Cannes as a global ambassador for L’Oréal Paris.

Bhatt said seeing women recognised on international platforms can inspire younger generations to pursue storytelling and creative careers. “It’ll build a sense of confidence in young girls today, to be like, hey, that could be me one day,” she said.
