Chand Mera Dil, starring Lakshya and Ananya Panday, opened in theatres on May 22 and has sparked strong reactions online, with audiences and critics sharing mixed but largely positive responses to the romantic drama directed by Vivek Soni.

The film, backed by Dharma Productions, follows Aarav and Chandni, two engineering students who fall in love, marry against family wishes, and struggle with the pressures of adulthood and responsibility. While many viewers praised the emotional depth, music, and performances, some criticized the film’s pacing and visual style, particularly in the second half.

On X, several users described the film as a refreshing take on modern relationships. One viewer called it “the biggest romantic sensation of 2026” and praised it as “a fresh cinematic treat for Gen Z.” Another appreciated its emotional storytelling, writing that the film “explores how life and responsibilities soon overtake the tenderness of relationship.”

Others were less convinced by its execution. One social media user described the cinematography and editing choices as “weirdly shot” and “disorienting,” pointing to the heavy use of lens flares and abrupt visual cutaways.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh gave the film 3.5 stars and described it as “impactful.” In his review, he wrote, “Expect the unexpected, because this isn’t your regular love story.” He praised Vivek Soni’s direction, the emotional moments, and the performances of the lead actors, while also noting that “the second half could’ve been sharper.”

Adarsh particularly highlighted Lakshya’s performance, saying the actor successfully moved beyond his action-hero image from Kill. He also praised Ananya Panday for delivering “a restrained and mature act,” adding that her recent performances continue to show growth as an actor.

Critical reviews reflected a similar divide. One review rated the film 2.5 stars and called it “frustrating, flawed, yet rewarding,” arguing that the romance portions fail to fully convince but praising the dramatic conflict that emerges later in the story. The review also noted that the film’s exploration of violence, regret, and second chances in relationships could spark discussion among audiences.

Another review rated the film 3.5 out of 5 and described it as “a fine romantic saga” that succeeds because of its subject, performances, and stylish execution. The review praised Vivek Soni’s storytelling, Lakshya’s emotional performance, and the relatability of the relationship conflicts portrayed in the film.

The music by Sachin-Jigar has emerged as one of the film’s strongest points in both audience and critic reactions. Tracks such as the title song, Ishq Nibhaavan, Khasiyatand Tumhi Ko received repeated praise for blending naturally into the narrative.

The supporting cast includes Raghubir Yadav, Mona Singh, Suhasini Mulay, Paresh Pahuja, Manish Chaudhari, and Irawati Harshe Mayadev. The film is written by Vivek Soni and Tushar Paranjape, with cinematography by Debojeet Ray and editing by Prashanth Ramachandran.

Early box office estimates reported that the film earned around ₹39 lakh across 1,665 shows in India after morning screenings. Reports also noted discounted opening-day ticket prices ranging from ₹149 to ₹199, a strategy expected to help generate word of mouth among younger audiences.
