Vivek Oberoi Says Akshay Kumar Helped Him During Bollywood Boycott
**Vivek Oberoi Akshay Kumar** became a talking point after the actor revealed that Akshay Kumar stepped in to support him during one of the most difficult phases of his career. Speaking in a recent interview with Mirchi Plus, Vivek recalled how the superstar helped him regain confidence after he faced professional isolation in Bollywood.
After making a strong impression with films such as *Company* and *Saathiya*, Vivek Oberoi’s career slowed dramatically following his highly publicized fallout with Salman Khan in 2003. The actor has previously said that the controversy led to an unofficial boycott within the industry, leaving him with fewer opportunities despite receiving praise for his performances.
Reflecting on that period, Vivek said Akshay Kumar reached out when he was struggling emotionally and professionally. Recalling the conversation, he said Akshay called to ask where he was and, after learning he was at home feeling depressed, arrived at his residence within half an hour to speak with him in person.
According to Vivek, Akshay acknowledged that he could not change the industry’s dynamics but wanted to help him rebuild a positive mindset. Rather than making promises to challenge the alleged boycott, the actor offered a practical solution.
Vivek revealed that Akshay was receiving numerous offers for live stage shows featuring his popular songs but was unable to accept many of them because of his film commitments. Akshay instead offered to pass those opportunities to Vivek, encouraging him to take the performances.
The gesture proved to be a turning point. Vivek said performing on stage allowed him to reconnect with audiences, experience the encouragement of cheering fans and regain confidence. The shows also provided him with a source of income during a period when film offers had become scarce.
“What surprised me was that he gave me his own work,” Vivek said, adding that few people would voluntarily hand over opportunities that could benefit someone else’s career.
The actor explained that his greatest frustration at the time was seeing his films earn appreciation and awards while producers remained reluctant to cast him. He said Akshay never claimed he would fight industry politics or confront influential figures. Instead, he chose to offer meaningful work that helped Vivek move forward on his own.
Vivek has previously spoken about the challenges he faced after the public dispute, saying filmmakers often expressed interest in working with him but backed away because of outside pressure. He recalled being told that people were unwilling to take the risk of becoming involved in the controversy, describing it as a situation beyond his control despite his performances in acclaimed films such as *Omkara* and *Shootout at Lokhandwala*.
The actor’s latest remarks highlight a personal act of support from Akshay Kumar during a difficult chapter in his career, underscoring the value of mentorship and solidarity in an industry often shaped by intense competition and public scrutiny.
On the professional front, Vivek Oberoi is set to portray Vibhishana in Nitesh Tiwari’s *Ramayana: Part 1*, which is scheduled for a theatrical release during Diwali 2026. Akshay Kumar, meanwhile, continues to balance multiple film projects, including the upcoming *Welcome to the Jungle*.
