Actor Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub has clarified that he is not part of Ajay Devgn’s upcoming film Chauhaan after his voice was used in the film’s announcement teaser. The actor said he recorded a single line for the makers months ago without knowing the context in which it would be used and later objected to its inclusion after watching the teaser.
Ayyub addressed the matter in a statement shared on X, saying he had dubbed the line in good faith because of his association with producer Aanand L Rai, with whom he has worked on films including Raanjhanaa, Zero and the Tanu Weds Manu franchise.
“Few weeks back, a film teaser released with the opening line in my voice. I wish to put on record that I am not part of the film in any capacity,” Ayyub wrote.
He said he was asked to record the line without any reference material and agreed without seeking further details because he knew the makers personally. However, after seeing the teaser and the context in which his voice appeared, he raised an objection and requested its removal.
Teaser updated after actor’s objection
Ayyub said the filmmakers removed his voice from the teaser after his objection. The updated version available on YouTube features a different voice in place of his narration, although versions shared on some other platforms reportedly continue to carry the original audio.
The makers of Chauhaan have not issued an official statement explaining the changes to the teaser. It is also unclear whether the edits were made specifically in response to Ayyub’s objection or as part of a wider revision.
The teaser had drawn criticism online following its release, with some viewers and groups objecting to its portrayal of events connected to Kashmir. The promotional video references clashes involving security forces and protesters and includes dialogue around stone-pelting incidents.
Ayyub says he would not associate with such projects
Ayyub said he would not be involved in a project whose content conflicted with his views. He also said public attention should remain focused on wider issues affecting students and the country.
The controversy brought renewed attention to Ayyub’s association with the teaser, as the actor has previously expressed views on social and political issues. Several social media users had questioned his involvement after hearing his voice in the original promotional material.
Chauhaan is directed by Neeraj Yadav and is co-produced by Jio Studios and Aanand L Rai’s Colour Yellow Productions. Ajay Devgn plays the titular role in the film, which is scheduled for theatrical release on October 1 next year.
