Vaani Kapoor’s long-delayed film Sarvagunn Sampann is finally set to reach audiences, with Zee5 announcing that the social comedy will premiere on the streaming platform as part of its upcoming content slate. Produced by Maddock Films, the project has been awaiting release since 2023.
Directed by Sonali Rattan Deshmukh and co-starring Ishwak Singh, the film is set in a small town in the 1990s. Kapoor plays a young woman whose striking resemblance to an internationally renowned adult film star becomes the basis for how those around her judge her, affecting her prospects of acceptance and marriage.
Rather than functioning solely as a comedy, Sarvagunn Sampann uses its premise to examine identity, self-worth and the social labels that shape people’s lives. The story also explores the pressure placed on women to conform to societal expectations while encouraging self-acceptance and individuality.
Speaking about the film, Kapoor said its central theme was the reason she chose the project.
“At its heart, it’s about identity, the labels society places on us, and the personal journey of finding your own truth. What I loved most is that the film explores this subject with warmth, sensitivity, and humour, making it entertaining while leaving you with something to reflect on.”
The OTT release ends nearly two years of uncertainty surrounding the film’s release. Zee5 has not announced a specific premiere date but confirmed that the title will stream soon.
The platform also revealed that another delayed Hindi film, Pooja Meri Jaan, starring Huma Qureshi and Mrunal Thakur, will also make its debut on the service after reportedly remaining unreleased for several years.
