Singer Sonu Nigam has revealed that he is dealing with a painful nerve condition ahead of his scheduled concert in Mumbai on June 27, but remains determined to perform despite ongoing treatment.

In a video shared on Instagram, Nigam disclosed that he has been suffering from pinched nerves and has undergone MRI and CT scans over the past week. He also showed bandages on his shoulder and spoke candidly about the physical toll of the condition.

“I have pinched nerves. I have been taking MRI and CT scans for a week. I have been taking a lot of medicines. Physiotherapy was very painful. I am taking painkillers now,” he said.

He added that muscle relaxants prescribed as part of his treatment have affected his throat, saying it feels “a little heavy.”

The singer acknowledged that the combination of pain and medication has impacted his confidence ahead of the performance, which marks his return to the stage after nearly six weeks. “My throat is also not cooperating. But I can’t help it. May God give me strength on stage,” he said.

Continuing with Professional Commitments

Despite the discomfort, Nigam has chosen not to cancel his upcoming concert. He emphasised his commitment to performing live after a gap and reassured fans that he is doing everything possible to manage his condition.

He also shared a video from a recent appearance where he performed “Shukran Allah” alongside Salim Merchant. The performance took place at the launch of a restaurant in Dubai owned by composer-singer Shankar Mahadevan, where Nigam made an appearance despite his ongoing health issues.

Understanding the Condition

A pinched nerve occurs when surrounding tissues such as bones, muscles, or tendons exert pressure on a nerve, disrupting its function. This can lead to pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness. The condition is commonly reported in areas such as the neck, shoulders, lower back, and wrists. While many cases improve with rest and treatment, persistent compression can require ongoing medical care.

Career and Upcoming Tour

Nigam, one of India’s most prolific playback singers with over 5,000 songs to his credit, has continued to remain active with live performances and tours. He is scheduled to take his “Satrangi Tour” to multiple international cities, including Abu Dhabi, London, San Jose, Los Angeles, Calgary, Denver, New Jersey, and Toronto, beginning in August.

His decision to perform in Mumbai despite the health setback reflects his ongoing commitment to live audiences, even as he continues treatment.
