Hrithik Roshan Says He’d ‘Jump’ at a Role Like Zaffar Again

Actor Hrithik Roshan has indicated that he is eager to move beyond the conventional heroic roles that have defined much of his career, saying filmmakers continue to see him primarily as the “good guy.” The actor shared that he would gladly take on a character similar to Zaffar Khan from Luck By Chance, one of his most acclaimed unconventional performances.
Hrithik sparked discussion after posting a selfie from Paris on Instagram, with the Eiffel Tower visible in the background. Alongside the image, he revealed the type of character he would most like to play.
“Just got asked what’s the kind of role I’m looking for. And I surprised myself when it came to me. Remember Zaffar from Luck By Chance? That’s the one,” he wrote.
The actor added, “I’d jump on something like that. But directors only wanna see me play the good guy. Sad.”
The comment offered a rare glimpse into Hrithik’s creative aspirations and suggested a desire to explore more morally ambiguous and layered characters.
Why Zaffar Still Stands Out
In Luck By Chance, directed by Zoya Akhtar, Hrithik appeared in an extended cameo as Zaffar Khan, a successful Bollywood superstar whose charm masks a deeply self-serving personality.
Though the role was relatively brief, it remains one of the few occasions where Hrithik stepped away from his traditional heroic image. Zaffar was portrayed as ambitious, opportunistic and flawed, making the character memorable among audiences and critics alike.
The film starred Farhan Akhtar and Konkona Sen Sharma in lead roles and examined the aspirations and realities of the Hindi film industry.
Zoya Akhtar Responds
Hrithik’s post quickly drew attention from members of the film fraternity. Among the first to react was Zoya Akhtar herself, who responded with a playful invitation.
“Let’s get that coffee,” she wrote in the comments section, prompting speculation among fans about a possible future collaboration between the actor and filmmaker.
Several fans also revisited Hrithik’s performance in Luck By Chance, describing Zaffar as one of the most interesting characters of his career.
A Career Defined by Heroic Roles
Since making his debut opposite Ameesha Patel in Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, Hrithik has largely been associated with heroic, romantic and action-oriented characters.
While he has explored more intense performances in films such as Agneepath, Kaabil, Super 30 and Vikram Vedha, the actor’s latest comments suggest he is looking for roles that challenge audience expectations even further.
What’s Next for Hrithik Roshan?
Hrithik is preparing for a major new chapter in his career with Krrish 4. The project will not only see him reprise his iconic superhero role but also mark his directorial debut.
The film is being developed by Yash Raj Films in collaboration with Rakesh Roshan. Hrithik is also set to enter the OTT space as a producer with the Mumbai-set thriller Storm for Prime Video.
His remarks about wanting to revisit characters like Zaffar have added a new dimension to conversations about his future projects, especially as audiences continue to express interest in seeing him explore darker and more complex roles.
