Yash Raj Films (YRF) is reportedly set to enter the horror genre for the first time with a feature film starring Varun Dhawan in the lead. The project, which is expected to begin production later this year, is targeting a theatrical release in 2027.

The film will be written and directed by filmmaker Abhay Pannu, whose work on the critically acclaimed series Rocket Boys earned widespread recognition. The upcoming project will mark Pannu’s theatrical directorial debut.

According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, Varun Dhawan has been finalized as the protagonist for the studio’s maiden horror venture. A source quoted by the publication said the project is being strategically championed by YRF CEO Akshaye Widhani and represents the production house’s first feature-length horror film after exploring nearly every other major genre.

YRF Expands Its Genre Portfolio

The reported project signals a significant shift for Yash Raj Films, one of Bollywood’s biggest production banners, as it expands into horror for the first time. The studio has built its reputation across action, romance, drama, thrillers and spy films, making the move into horror a notable addition to its slate.

The film is also expected to continue YRF’s recent emphasis on working with filmmakers known for distinctive storytelling. Pannu’s appointment follows the acclaim he received for Rocket Boys, with the filmmaker taking on both writing and directing responsibilities for the project.
