Parole Absconder Arrested After Working Alongside Amitabh Bachchan and Ranveer Singh

Ahmedabad’s Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) has arrested Hemant Nagindas Purushottamdas Modi, a convicted murderer who spent 12 years evading authorities while working as an actor in Bollywood films, Gujarati cinema, television serials, and theatre productions.
The 53-year-old was arrested near Gheekanta Metro Station in Ahmedabad after police received a tip-off identifying him as a parole absconder. Investigators said Modi had been living under different identities since 2014, when he failed to return to prison after being granted parole.
Modi was convicted in 2008 in connection with the June 15, 2005 murder of Narendra alias Nanno Yashwant Kamble during a violent clash near Parshwanath Township in Ahmedabad’s Naroda area. Along with his brother Sachin Modi and several others, he was sentenced to life imprisonment on August 27, 2008.
Police said the case stemmed from a dispute involving an alleged illegal staircase built near a chawl. The clash led to charges under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including murder, rioting, and criminal conspiracy.
At the time of his disappearance, Modi was serving his sentence at Mehsana Jail. On July 25, 2014, the Gujarat High Court granted him 30 days’ parole. He failed to surrender after the parole period ended and was later declared a parole absconder.
Reinventing Himself in the Entertainment Industry
Police said Modi initially stayed in Gujarat’s Patan district before moving to Ahmedabad, where he adopted the name Twinkle Dave and worked in a private company. In 2017, he relocated to Mumbai and entered the entertainment industry under another identity, Spandan Modi.
Over the next several years, he appeared in supporting roles in several Hindi films and Gujarati productions. Police said his film credits included Thugs of Hindostan, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan, and Ranveer Singh’s Jayeshbhai Jordaar.
Investigators also said he was associated with projects including Metro… In Dino, L2: Empuraan, Lahore 1947, and Tu Hai Meri Kiran. Apart from films, he acted in Gujarati movies, web series such as Taskari, television programmes including Wagle Ki Duniya, and stage productions like Yugpurush and Gandhi Viruddh Godse.
Police stated that despite maintaining a visible public career, Modi managed to avoid detection for years by cutting ties with family members, divorcing his wife, and keeping almost no social media presence.
Arrest After Returning to Ahmedabad
Authorities said Modi returned to Ahmedabad in 2025 and began living in the Gheekanta area, where someone reportedly recognised him and alerted police.
Investigators cross-checked his appearance with prison records before detaining him for questioning. Police said he later confessed to his identity.
The Ahmedabad Crime Branch is now examining whether anyone assisted Modi during his years on the run and how he continued to work in the film industry while evading arrest. He is expected to be handed over to Mehsana District Jail to serve the remainder of his sentence.
