In a deeply personal blog post published this week, the 83-year-old reflected on the emotional and physical challenges of recovery after returning home, though he did not disclose the reason for the surgery or when it occurred.

In his blog, Bachchan wrote that he had been “in Hospital in a surgery and in the ICU, under the care of proficient Doctors and medical Staff” before being discharged.

He described the recovery period at home as the most difficult part of the experience, saying it is challenging “physically, psychologically and practically.” Comparing recovery to facing an unexpected setback, he wrote that even those regarded as champions must sometimes confront defeat before finding the strength to move forward.

The actor concluded with a philosophical reflection, saying some people overcome adversity through determination while others learn to accept a changed reality, adding that both responses are personal choices and urging readers to “be well, be happy.”

Cryptic social media post raises questions

Shortly after publishing the blog, Bachchan shared a brief message on social media that read: “The game has ended! But the work is still going on.”

The post led to an outpouring of concern from fans, many of whom wished him a speedy recovery. Neither Bachchan nor his family has released additional information about his medical condition.

Long history of health challenges

Bachchan has spoken publicly over the years about significant health issues. He survived a near-fatal accident while filming Coolie in 1982, requiring emergency surgery and an extended period of hospitalisation.

He has also disclosed that he lives with only about 25% functioning of his liver after contracting hepatitis B following contaminated blood transfusions received during treatment after the accident.

In May 2026, reports claimed the actor had been hospitalised, but a source cited by ETimes said he had only visited Mumbai’s Nanavati Hospital for a routine monthly check-up and had returned home the same day.

Despite recurring health concerns, Bachchan has maintained an active work schedule. He is expected to reprise his role as Ashwatthama in the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD and has continued with his film and television commitments.
