Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan Reunite for Anees Bazmee’s Upcoming Comedy

Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan are reuniting on screen for Anees Bazmee’s upcoming family comedy, marking their fourth collaboration together. The actor confirmed the project through social media posts from the film’s Kerala schedule, where he was joined by Vidya Balan and co-star Raashii Khanna.

Sharing a video from the journey to Kerala, Akshay wrote on Instagram, “Next stop: God’s own country, the magical Keralam. Anees Bazmi’s next is my fourth film with the ever fabulous @balanvidya and I hope the good luck charm of our jodi continues.”

The actor later posted a photograph with Vidya Balan and Raashii Khanna after wrapping the Kerala schedule. “Keralam schedule wrapped! Nothing beats working with good people in a beautiful place. Big love to our director Anees Bazmee for the madness behind the camera and to my incredible co-stars Vidya, Raashii, Chota Rajpal and the entire crew! This one’s been special,” he wrote.

Akshay Kumar reunites with Anees Bazmee after 15 years

The untitled film marks Akshay Kumar’s reunion with director Anees Bazmee after more than a decade. The duo previously delivered commercially successful comedies including Welcome, Singh Is Kinng and Thank You.

The project is being produced by Dil Raju and is described as a situational family comedy. Reports suggest that a major portion of the film has already been shot, with the team aiming to complete filming by the end of May.

Industry insiders quoted in Bollywood Hungama claimed Akshay Kumar is pleased with the way the film is shaping up, particularly Bazmee’s approach to humour. The report also stated that the actor’s on-screen relationship with his son in the film is expected to be one of the major comic highlights.

The film is targeting a December 2026 theatrical release and is said to feature a large-scale entertainment setup with music playing a significant role. A Holi dance sequence choreographed by Ganesh Acharya has reportedly already been filmed.

Fourth collaboration with Vidya Balan

Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan have previously worked together in Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Heyy Babyy and Mission Mangal. All three films performed strongly at the box office and established their pairing as a popular on-screen combination.

The upcoming film will also mark another collaboration between Akshay and Rajpal Yadav, whom the actor referred to as “Chota Rajpal” in his social media post.

Akshay Kumar’s latest release Bhooth Bangla, directed by Priyadarshan, features Wamiqa Gabbi, Paresh Rawal, Tabu and Rajpal Yadav alongside the actor. Speaking to ANI, Akshay described the film as a “real horror comedy” and clarified that it differs from Bhool Bhulaiyaa in tone and treatment.

“Nahi ye bilkul alag hai. ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’… usme psychological thriller, horror… horror bhi nahi tha psychological comedy thi. This is a fantasy. Iske andar vakai mein koi bhoot hai ya nahi dekhna hai. Yeh actually kahunga to asli mein horror comedy hai,” he said.

Akshay’s upcoming slate also includes Welcome To The Jungle, Hera Pheri 3, Golmaal 5 and Haiwaan with Saif Ali Khan.
