Pulkit Samrat Says Salman Khan’s Debut Advice Changed His Career

Pulkit Samrat has revealed that Salman Khan’s advice before the release of his 2012 Bollywood debut Bittoo Boss transformed the way he views success and failure. Speaking to Variety India, the actor said the superstar’s candid words helped him overcome debut anxiety and continue his career with a healthier perspective on the industry’s unpredictability.
As actors often face enormous pressure before their first film reaches audiences, Pulkit Samrat admitted he was overwhelmed by uncertainty ahead of the release of Bittoo Boss. Wondering how both the film and his performance would be received, he turned to Salman Khan, whose response became a defining moment in his career.
Recalling the conversation, Pulkit said Salman told him, “Pulkit, I am Salman Khan. Even I don’t have the guarantee of my next Friday. So, who do you think you are? What are you going to achieve by stressing about it?”
The statement, Pulkit said, instantly shifted his outlook. If one of Hindi cinema’s biggest stars could not predict the fate of his own films, there was little point in letting fear of the box office consume him. The advice helped him accept that uncertainty is an unavoidable part of the profession.
Pulkit also spoke about the lessons he learned by observing Salman Khan beyond public appearances. Contrary to the perception that the superstar takes a relaxed approach to work, he described him as someone completely immersed in filmmaking.
“He eats, sleeps and breathes films 24/7,” Pulkit said, explaining that Salman is constantly thinking about scripts, casting decisions and large-scale action sequences, even while operating on very little sleep. Watching that level of dedication convinced him that matching even a fraction of Salman’s longevity would require significantly greater effort on his own part.
The actor said that realization fundamentally changed his work ethic. He now approaches every project with the belief that sustained hard work is essential for building a lasting career in Bollywood.
Beyond professional discipline, Pulkit highlighted Salman’s personal values as an equally important influence. He praised the actor’s care for those around him and spoke about the deep respect Salman continues to show his father, veteran screenwriter Salim Khan. According to Pulkit, witnessing that close-knit family bond left a lasting impression and inspired him to value humility and family relationships alongside professional success.
Pulkit’s reflections come at a busy stage in his career. He was recently seen in Netflix’s sports action drama Glory, which earned positive responses from viewers and critics, and also made a special appearance in Homi Adajania’s Cocktail 2. He is next expected to star opposite Isabelle Kaif in Suswagatam Khushaamadeed, although the film’s revised release date has yet to be announced after its delay.
Salman Khan, meanwhile, is preparing for the war drama Maatrubhumi, directed by Apoorva Lakhia and produced by Salma Khan under Salman Khan Films. The film, in which he plays an Indian Army colonel leading his soldiers during a historic last stand, has been postponed from its earlier release schedule and awaits a new theatrical date. The superstar is also set to headline producer Dil Raju’s upcoming film directed by Vamshi Paidipally alongside Nayanthara, with Salman confirming an Eid 2027 release window.
Pulkit’s recollection offers a reminder that, even in an industry driven by opening weekends and box-office expectations, resilience, discipline and perspective can prove just as valuable as stardom itself.
