Deepika Padukone has reportedly completed physically demanding action sequences for Raaka while in the third trimester of her second pregnancy. The actress, who is said to be around seven months pregnant, worked night shifts to finish her portions before taking maternity leave, with members of the production team praising her commitment to keeping the film on schedule.
Deepika is currently filming Raaka, an upcoming action entertainer directed by Atlee and headlined by Allu Arjun. The film, produced by Sun Pictures, is one of the most anticipated pan-India releases scheduled for 2027.
According to reports citing a crew member, Deepika was determined to complete her work before stepping away for maternity leave despite the physically demanding nature of several action sequences.
The crew member said the actress successfully performed scenes described as “very demanding” and “almost gruelling,” adding that her determination had become a source of inspiration for those working on the production. The source also noted that Deepika has continued to devote time to her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter while managing her filming commitments.
Production Remains on Schedule
Reports say Deepika has been shooting almost daily, including night schedules, to complete her portions without disrupting the production timeline. Her work is said to have helped the film remain on schedule with no major delays.
Raaka is being mounted on a large scale, combining elaborate action sequences with extensive visual effects. The project has generated significant anticipation since the release of Allu Arjun’s first-look poster, which showcased the actor in a bald, rugged appearance.
Eight-Hour Workday Debate
The latest reports follow recent public discussion surrounding Deepika’s support for an eight-hour workday in the Indian film industry.
Speaking to CNBC-TV18, the actress rejected suggestions that such a schedule was unreasonable, saying many established male actors have followed similar working hours for years without attracting public attention.
Deepika also criticised what she described as the industry’s long-standing “chalta hai” approach to work culture, arguing that filmmaking should operate in a more organised and structured manner. She pointed to issues including extended working hours, inconsistent planning and inadequate working conditions, saying meaningful systemic changes are needed.
Reflecting on the public attention surrounding the issue, Deepika said she has traditionally handled professional challenges privately, including matters related to pay and workplace conditions, even when those discussions later became public.
Personal Milestone
Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh recently announced that they are expecting their second child through a joint social media post. The couple welcomed their first child, daughter Dua, on September 8, 2024.
Deepika and Ranveer married in November 2018 at Lake Como, Italy, after first meeting during the filming of Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. Their wedding included ceremonies reflecting both Deepika’s Konkani heritage and Ranveer’s Sindhi traditions.
Looking Ahead
With Deepika expected to begin her maternity break after completing her portions, attention now shifts to the remaining production work on Raaka. Directed by Atlee and starring Allu Arjun alongside Deepika Padukone, the film remains on track for its planned 2027 theatrical release.
