Kareena Kapoor Dismisses RK Studios Revival Buzz

Actor Kareena Kapoor has firmly denied widespread speculation that her cousin Ranbir Kapoor is planning to revive the iconic RK Studios. Addressing the rumours, Kareena said there is currently no such plan in place, despite growing public excitement around the idea.
Speaking in a recent interview, she clarified that even within the Kapoor family, the claims had been discussed and dismissed.
“That’s just not true. It was even being discussed in our family group, and everyone was like, ‘This isn’t happening.’ I feel people really want it to happen.”
Her statement effectively counters multiple reports that suggested a large-scale revival project led by Ranbir.
‘Heartbreaking, But Not Happening’
While acknowledging the emotional value attached to RK Studios, Kareena admitted that the possibility of its revival resonates deeply with fans and the family alike.
“It’s heartbreaking, but it’s not happening.”
She emphasized that Ranbir Kapoor is currently focused on his acting career, calling him “the best actor in India we have today.” According to her, taking on a massive legacy project like RK Studios would require a different kind of commitment.
Kareena also hinted that if a revival were ever to happen, it would likely be driven by the younger generation, mentioning Karisma Kapoor (fondly known as Lolo) and Ranbir as potential decision-makers in the future.
Family Source Calls Reports ‘Baseless’
Backing Kareena’s statement, a source close to the Kapoor family dismissed the circulating reports as “baseless.” Earlier claims had suggested that Ranbir Kapoor had secured a long-term lease in Mumbai and was planning a state-of-the-art production facility.
These reports included detailed descriptions of a proposed five-floor studio complex with advanced virtual production technology, VFX units, and luxury amenities. They even outlined a leadership structure involving multiple Kapoor family members.
However, the family has denied all such developments, confirming that no agreements or revival plans are currently underway.
The Legacy of RK Studios
Founded in 1948 by legendary filmmaker Raj Kapoor, RK Studios remains one of the most significant institutions in Hindi cinema history. Located in Mumbai’s Chembur area, the studio produced several landmark films, including Awaara, Shree 420, and Bobby.
Known for its distinctive storytelling style and iconic logo, RK Studios played a pivotal role in shaping Bollywood’s golden era. However, after a major fire in 2017 damaged parts of the property, the Kapoor family sold the land to Godrej Properties in 2019 for ₹180 crore.
The 1999 film Aa Ab Laut Chalen was the last production under the RK Films banner.
Kareena Kapoor on Future Projects
Apart from addressing the rumours, Kareena also spoke about her upcoming film Daayra, directed by Meghna Gulzar. She described it as a subject-driven project she is excited about and part of her effort to explore diverse roles.
The actor also expressed interest in experimenting with long-format storytelling, revealing plans to potentially work on a miniseries in the near future.
Conclusion
Despite strong nostalgia and fan interest, RK Studios is not set for a comeback anytime soon. Kareena Kapoor’s clear statement, supported by family sources, puts an end to speculation—for now—while leaving the door slightly open for future generations to revisit the legacy.
