Yash Delays ‘Toxic’ Release to June 2026; Move Clears Solo Run for ‘Dhurandhar 2’

The release of the highly anticipated action drama “Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups,” starring Yash, has been postponed from March 19 to June 4, 2026, with the makers citing ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East as the primary reason behind the decision.
The film, directed by Geetu Mohandas, was gearing up for a large-scale global rollout when the producers opted to delay the release to ensure a wider and smoother international distribution, particularly in key overseas markets.
Makers Prioritize Global Release Strategy
Yash announced the postponement on social media on March 4, sharing an official statement explaining the rationale behind the move.
The statement emphasized that the film was conceived as a global cinematic experience.
Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-ups is a film we conceptualized with the vision to create cinema for a global audience. Filmed in Kannada and English, it is built with the conviction to connect with viewers both at home and across the world.
While the team had initially planned to bring the film to theatres on March 19 after years of development, the statement noted that the current uncertainty in the Middle East could hinder their ability to reach international audiences effectively.
However, the current uncertainty, especially in the Middle East, has created a situation that impacts our goal to reach and connect with the widest possible audience.
The makers described the postponement as a “difficult but carefully considered decision,” confirming the new worldwide release date of June 4, 2026.
Middle East Market a Crucial Revenue Stream
The Middle East has long been one of the most significant overseas markets for Indian films. The region, particularly the Gulf countries, contributes a substantial share of international box office earnings due to the large South Asian diaspora.
For major Indian productions, the Gulf can account for 30–40 percent of overseas revenue, making stability in the region essential for a film’s global box office performance.
Yash’s popularity in the region grew significantly after the success of the KGF franchise, which performed strongly across Gulf territories. Releasing Toxic amid regional instability could have affected opening-weekend momentum and international collections, prompting the producers to wait for a more favorable window.
Planned Promotions Halted
The decision came just as the film’s promotional campaign was about to begin.
A grand trailer launch event was scheduled in Bengaluru on March 8, followed by multiple press events across Indian cities. Marketing preparations had already been finalized, with hoardings booked, theatre listings arranged, and advance bookings expected to open soon.
Despite these preparations, the producers chose to delay the film to protect its long-term commercial prospects.
Trade Experts Back the Decision
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh supported the postponement, calling it a commercially sound move.
According to Adarsh, the film’s original release date would have created a major box-office clash with Ranveer Singh’s “Dhurandhar 2.” Such a showdown would have created significant challenges for exhibitors and distributors.
He noted that theatre owners would have struggled to allocate screens and show timings for two large-scale releases.
Adarsh also pointed out that clashes often lead to intense fan rivalries on social media, which can generate negativity ahead of release and potentially impact business.
With Toxic moving to June, “Dhurandhar 2” now gets a solo release on March 19, while Toxic can target a more stable international market.
Vishal Mishra Praises the Makers’ Decision
Singer and composer Vishal Mishra, who performed the song “Tabaahi” from the film, also expressed support for the postponement.
Sharing the announcement on social media, Mishra wrote:
The film and everything we do is for the FANS. But while the world is on the edge, restraint speaks louder than promotion. What a thoughtful move. Toxic in cinemas on 4th June…till then, enjoy the sound of Tabaahi.
The audio track Tabaahi was released earlier and received a positive response from fans, many of whom are now requesting additional promotional content before the film’s release.
Star-Studded Cast and Big-Budget Production
Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups is one of the most ambitious Indian productions currently in development.
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the film features an ensemble cast including:
- Yash
- Kiara Advani
- Nayanthara
- Huma Qureshi
- Rukmini Vasanth
- Tara Sutaria
- Akshay Oberoi
- Sudev Nair
The project has reportedly been mounted on a massive scale, with a budget estimated between ₹600–700 crore, making it among the most expensive Indian films ever produced.
The story is set in a bygone era in Goa, where a powerful drug cartel operates behind the façade of a coastal paradise.
A Strategic Reset for the Box Office
The postponement reshapes the upcoming box office calendar. With Toxic moving to June, two of the most anticipated films will now release independently, giving both projects a clearer path to maximize their theatrical potential.
Industry observers believe the move reflects a broader shift in Indian cinema, where global distribution strategies and overseas markets increasingly influence release planning.
For now, audiences will have to wait a few more months before Yash’s next big-screen spectacle arrives in theatres worldwide.
