Vivek Agnihotri, Bhushan Kumar Announce Operation Sindoor, Film on Military Strikes

Filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri and producer Bhushan Kumar have joined forces to announce Operation Sindoor, a feature film inspired by India’s military response to the 2025 Pahalgam terror attack.
The project will be directed by Agnihotri and produced under T-Series in collaboration with I Am Buddha Productions. Positioned as a high-intensity, research-driven drama, the film aims to present a detailed account of a significant national security operation.
Based on Lt Gen K.J.S. Dhillon’s Book
The film draws from the book Operation Sindoor: The Untold Story of India’s Deep Strikes Inside Pakistan by Lt Gen K.J.S. ‘Tiny’ Dhillon (Retd). According to the makers, the narrative is rooted in real events and supported by extensive research, including inputs from multiple branches of the Indian Armed Forces.
Agnihotri described the project as more than a conventional cinematic venture. “This is not just a film. It is a revelation,” he said, emphasizing a focus on facts, strategic clarity, and the realities of modern warfare.
The Pahalgam Attack and India’s Response
The story is set against the backdrop of the April 22, 2025 terror attack in Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where terrorists targeted tourists, killing at least 26 people. The attack was among the deadliest in the region since the 2019 Pulwama incident.
In response, India launched Operation Sindoor between May 6 and May 10, 2025, carrying out precision strikes on multiple terror camps and infrastructure across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The operation marked a significant moment in India’s military strategy and counterterrorism stance.
Makers Emphasize Authenticity and Responsibility
Bhushan Kumar highlighted the responsibility of telling such a story with accuracy and integrity. “Some stories are not chosen; they choose you… This is a story that demands to be told with honesty, courage, and responsibility,” he said.
Agnihotri also stressed that the film will avoid sensationalism and instead focus on grounded storytelling. “Rooted in reality… not to create noise, but to confront it: with facts, with clarity, and the magic of cinema,” he noted.
The filmmakers have indicated that the project will incorporate on-ground research and insights from various military sources to ensure authenticity.
A Growing Trend of Real-Life Military Narratives
Operation Sindoor arrives at a time when Hindi cinema is increasingly exploring stories based on real-life national security events. The film aims to combine a cinematic narrative with a factual portrayal of military strategy, courage, and the complexities of modern warfare.
While anticipation around the project is building, the makers have not yet announced details regarding the cast or release date.
