Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar has praised Ranveer Singh for his performance in Dhurandhar: The Revenge, highlighting the actor’s dedication and transformation for the role.

Speaking about Singh’s portrayal, Bhandarkar emphasized the level of commitment required to deliver such a performance. “There are very few actors who would give that immense commitment. When I see a film like Dhurandhar and the unbelievable performance of Ranveer Singh, it is clear that he has given 2 or 3 years of his life,” he said.

He added that such discipline and willingness to take the “difficult path” are increasingly rare, noting that the actor’s preparation elevates the film’s overall impact.

“Flawless Performance” and National Award Praise

Bhandarkar was particularly effusive after watching the sequel, describing it as an intense cinematic experience. He called the film “a blueprint for how to conquer a high-stakes sequel” and credited director Aditya Dhar for his vision.

Praising Ranveer Singh’s performance, he said, “I’m at a loss for words, his performance is just flawless. He doesn’t just act; he becomes the character with ferocious conviction.”

The filmmaker went a step further, stating that Singh “deserves a National Award hands down” for his work in the film.

A Character Built on Intense Preparation

In the Dhurandhar franchise, Ranveer Singh plays fictional spy Jaskirat Singh Rangi, who operates under the alias Hamza Ali Mazari during a high-risk undercover mission. The role required extensive physical training, mental conditioning and a deep understanding of the character’s emotional arc.

Bhandarkar noted that this level of authenticity adds depth to the narrative, making it more immersive for audiences. The sequel expands on the character’s journey, delving deeper into his past while raising the stakes with more intense action and storytelling.

Industry Reactions and Debate on Support

While praising the film’s success, Bhandarkar also commented on what he described as a lack of visible support from parts of the Hindi film industry. He pointed out that several South Indian stars, including Mahesh Babu, Allu Arjun, Ram Charan and Rajinikanth, publicly appreciated the film.

“I’m really shocked that from our Mumbai film industry, the kind of applause and support that Aditya Dhar deserved hasn’t come,” he said, adding, “There is no unity in the film industry.”

He stressed that successful films benefit the entire ecosystem and should be acknowledged regardless of personal preferences.

A Franchise Impacting Hindi Cinema

Bhandarkar also reflected on the broader impact of the Dhurandhar franchise, calling it a game-changer for the industry. He echoed sentiments that the film has “changed the entire dynamics” of filmmaking, including screenplay structure and storytelling approach.

He described the project as a “director’s film,” stating, “You can have all the money, but you can’t get the brain of Aditya Dhar.” He further noted that the film’s scale, detailing and audience engagement could make it a case study in film schools.

The Dhurandhar series, centred on a high-stakes espionage mission, draws from real-world geopolitical tensions and events, combining action with layered storytelling.
