Kriti Sanon on Nepotism: “I Was Replaced Many Times, But Talent Ultimately Wins”

Actor Kriti Sanon has addressed the ongoing debate around nepotism in Bollywood, sharing her personal experiences of missing out on roles and navigating the industry as an outsider. Speaking at the Times Now Summit 2026, she offered a measured perspective, acknowledging both the challenges and opportunities she encountered over the years.

Sanon, who has spent over a decade in the film industry, emphasized that while nepotism exists, it does not solely determine long-term success.

“I Was Replaced Many Times”

Opening up about her journey, Kriti admitted that losing roles has been a recurring reality in her career.

“Many times. But wo toh star kid na hua, toh koi aur hoga. There are so many actors,” she said, when asked if she had been replaced by star kids.

She highlighted the competitive nature of the industry, noting that actors—regardless of background—face constant challenges in securing roles.

On Being an Outsider in Mumbai

Reflecting on her early days, Kriti said that coming from a non-film background made the transition to Mumbai overwhelming at times.

“I don’t come from any film family or connection, so yes, it can feel a bit overwhelming in Mumbai… like you’re a little lost in the city,” she shared.

Despite this, she expressed gratitude for the reception she received after her debut in Heropanti, where she starred opposite Tiger Shroff. She noted that the industry welcomed her warmly from the beginning.

Nepotism Exists, But Talent Sustains

Sanon took a balanced stance on nepotism, stating that it is not unique to the film industry.

“I feel yes, nepotism exists in every field. It’s just that in ours, it’s easier to talk about,” she said.

According to her, while industry connections may provide early access, they do not guarantee sustained success. “You can get 2-3 opportunities very easily… but in the end, you must resonate with the audience.”

She stressed that persistence and self-improvement remain key factors in building a lasting career. “It can take time to get opportunities that you really crave for, but if you stay at it, you’ll finally get it.”

“If My Child Wants to Act…”

Looking ahead, Kriti acknowledged how industry dynamics could benefit future generations, including her own.

“If I have a child who wants to be in acting, they’ll have easy access because they know people in the business,” she said.

However, she reiterated that access alone is not enough. “Ultimately, it is your talent that will ensure your longevity… the audience decides who remains and who fades away.”

Career and Upcoming Projects

Kriti Sanon began her career as a model before transitioning to films and has since featured in several successful projects, including Bareilly Ki Barfi, Luka Chuppi, Mimi, Dilwale, and Bhediya.

She is now gearing up for her next film, Cocktail 2, where she will star alongside Shahid Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna. Directed by Homi Adajania and produced by Dinesh Vijan, the film is slated for release on June 19, 2026.
