Filmmaker Karan Johar has shared an enthusiastic and emotional review of Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge after finally watching the blockbuster in theatres. The director-producer, who had earlier spoken about experiencing “Dhurandhar FOMO,” praised both the film’s storytelling and performances, calling it a deeply moving cinematic experience.

Taking to Instagram, Johar acknowledged ongoing conversations around the film’s themes, writing, “The discussions on testosterone, hyper alpha energy and deep-rooted patriotism will continue as they must… but Dhurandhar 2 is so much more than that.”

He highlighted the emotional depth of the narrative, particularly the backstory of the protagonist Jaskirat and the sacrifices portrayed in the film. Johar also praised the film’s technical aspects, including its soundscape and overall craft.

Calls Aditya Dhar an “Outstanding Filmmaker”

Johar reserved special praise for director Aditya Dhar, applauding his command over the film’s storytelling and scale.

“The humanisation and layered backstory even of the antagonist… the impeccable craft… proves the brilliance and directorial command of Aditya Dhar,” he wrote.

Calling Dhar a filmmaker who is redefining mainstream Hindi cinema, Johar added, “What an absolutely astounding and outstanding filmmaker he is… he not only raises the mainstream bar but also creates a new one… yeh naya director hai!!!”

Ranveer Singh’s “Career-Best” Performance

Johar was equally effusive in his praise for lead actor Ranveer Singh, declaring Dhurandhar 2 as the finest performance of his career.

“Aur aur aur @ranveersingh tu kya hai yaar?! Your career BEST work… every tear of yours, every quiet stare, each time you walk with undeniable swag proves you are one of the greats!!!”

He further described Singh as “an artist of huge calibre for the ages” and a “true Dhurandhar movie star,” emphasizing the emotional and physical intensity the actor brings to the role.

Nostalgia for 70s Hindi Cinema

Johar also reflected on how the film transported him back to the era of 1970s Hindi cinema, often experienced in single-screen theatres.

“I went back to the days I watched pure solid Hindi cinema in single screens in the 70s… and came out satiated,” he shared, adding that the film rekindled his sense of pride in being part of the film industry.

From ‘FOMO’ to Full Praise

Earlier, Johar had revealed he couldn’t watch the film upon release due to being on a shoot in a remote location without access to a cinema. He had expressed eagerness to see the film amid widespread industry appreciation.

Now, after finally watching it, his glowing review adds to the chorus of praise surrounding the film, which has also been performing strongly at the box office and garnering support from across the industry.
