‘Don 3’ Dispute Draws Industry Intervention as Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan Step In

The reported fallout between Ranveer Singh and filmmaker-producer Farhan Akhtar over the upcoming film Don 3 has escalated into a wider industry discussion, prompting intervention from several prominent figures in Bollywood.

According to reports, a closed-door meeting involving leading filmmakers and producers was recently held to address the situation surrounding the project, which was originally planned as the next chapter in the iconic action franchise.

High-Level Meeting of Industry Leaders

The meeting reportedly included several influential names from the Hindi film industry, including Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Rajkumar Hirani, Zoya Akhtar, Sajid Nadiadwala, Ramesh Taurani, Kumar Mangat Pathak, and Amritpal Singh Bindra.

Sources indicate that the status of Don 3 and its reported financial complications formed a significant part of the discussion. The presence of multiple senior producers and filmmakers highlighted the seriousness of the issue and the industry’s interest in finding a resolution.

Ranveer Singh’s Exit and Financial Dispute

The controversy stems from Ranveer Singh’s reported exit from the project. In August 2023, the actor was announced as the new lead of the franchise, marking a generational shift after the earlier versions headlined by Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan.

The film is backed by Excel Entertainment, led by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani.

Reports suggest that after Ranveer’s exit, the production house incurred significant costs related to pre-production and restructuring. According to industry estimates, the banner has claimed losses of around ₹40 crore and reportedly sought compensation from the actor. Neither side has publicly commented on the details of the claim.

Aamir Khan Reportedly Acting as Mediator

Amid the growing speculation, Aamir Khan is believed to have stepped in to mediate between the two parties in an effort to reach an amicable solution.

Sources indicate that meetings aimed at resolving the dispute have taken place at the actor’s Mumbai residence. Several industry figures—including Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar, Sajid Nadiadwala, Karan Johar, and Ektaa Kapoor—were reportedly seen leaving the residence during recent discussions.

A source told that Aamir is attempting to address unresolved issues between Ranveer Singh and Excel Entertainment.

Producers Guild May Step In

The matter is also believed to have reached members of the Producers Guild of India, who have informally advised that the dispute could move toward a formal legal process if a resolution is not reached.

Industry insiders suggest that the broader objective of the recent discussions is to prevent similar conflicts from escalating in the future. There is reportedly a push within the industry to empower the Producers Guild with clearer contractual guidelines and faster arbitration mechanisms for resolving disputes between actors and production houses.

Future of ‘Don 3’ Remains Uncertain

The Don franchise was revived by Farhan Akhtar in 2006 with Shah Rukh Khan leading a remake of the 1978 classic. Its sequel, Don 2, released in 2011 and continued the storyline with Khan in the lead role.

When Ranveer Singh was announced as the new face of Don 3 in 2023, the move was positioned as a new chapter for the long-running action series. However, developments behind the scenes have left the project’s immediate future unclear.

While discussions between the parties are reportedly ongoing, it remains uncertain whether the latest industry meeting has led to any immediate resolution.
