After a historic theatrical run, Aditya Dhar’s spy thriller Dhurandhar has finally arrived on OTT. The film began streaming on Netflix from Friday, reigniting online conversations around its performances—particularly those of Ranveer Singh and Akshaye Khanna—which many viewers are now calling the finest of their careers.

Dhurandhar Streams on Netflix After Record Box Office Run

Released in cinemas on December 5, Dhurandhar emerged as one of the biggest blockbusters in Indian cinema, earning over ₹1,301 crore worldwide in just 57 days. The film stars Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi, and is now available on Netflix in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

The OTT debut has helped the film reach a wider audience, many of whom are revisiting it for the second time.

Viral Scene Sparks Fresh Ranveer–Akshaye Debate

Soon after the Netflix release, a clip featuring Ranveer Singh and Akshaye Khanna sitting in the same car—Ranveer at the wheel, Akshaye looming in the back seat—went viral on social media. The scene, backed by an intense background score, drew praise for its tension and performances.

One viral post read, “Peak Akshaye Khanna. Peak Ranveer Singh. Peak Aditya Dhar. This is how you make a spy movie.” The tweet reignited discussions around whether Akshaye’s antagonist, Rehman Dakait, overshadowed Ranveer’s lead role.

Viewers Say the Film ‘Hits Harder’ on Second Watch

Several viewers who rewatched Dhurandhar on OTT said the film felt even more impactful the second time around. Many praised the sharp screenplay, relentless pacing and performances.

One user wrote that Ranveer Singh was “electric,” while Akshaye Khanna brought “pure class” to the role of Rehman Dakait, calling the film a must-watch despite having already seen it in theatres.

Not Everyone Agrees Akshaye Overshadowed Ranveer

While Akshaye Khanna’s restrained menace received widespread acclaim, a strong section of fans pushed back against claims that he overshadowed Ranveer Singh.

Some viewers argued that Ranveer “owned every frame” and dominated scenes where the two shared screen space. Others called the narrative of Akshaye overshadowing Ranveer a misconception, insisting that Ranveer’s transformation and intensity were central to the film’s success.

OTT Version Faces Criticism Over Cuts and Censorship

Alongside praise, Dhurandhar’s OTT release has also drawn criticism. Fans noted that the Netflix version is shorter by about nine minutes compared to the original theatrical cut. Several dialogues and cuss words appear muted, sparking disappointment among viewers who expected an uncut version on streaming.

Industry sources have clarified that streaming platforms do not independently alter films and only upload versions provided by the producers. Reports suggest that the OTT version aligns with a revised theatrical cut released earlier following legal directions related to certain dialogues.

A Franchise That Shows No Signs of Slowing Down

Despite debates around edits, Dhurandhar continues to dominate pop culture conversations. The film is planned as a two-part franchise, with Dhurandhar 2 scheduled for a theatrical release on March 19, 2026.

With its OTT debut, Dhurandhar has found a second wave of appreciation—especially for Ranveer Singh and Akshaye Khanna—cementing its place as one of the most talked-about Indian films of recent times.
