Actor Akshay Kumar has clarified that he will not be playing the lead role in the upcoming comedy film Golmaal 5, putting an end to speculation around his character. The film continues to be headlined by Ajay Devgn, who remains the central figure of the franchise.

Speaking about his involvement, Akshay said:

“I’m happy that they think I was good enough to be a part of Golmaal. Ajay is the main hero. I’m not playing the main part. But what’s wrong with it?”

He emphasized that his decision to join the project was driven by the film’s overall vision rather than the size of his role.

“For me, it’s far more important what the film is setting out to achieve. If I like the story, I’ll do it.”

‘No Insecurity’ About Sharing the Spotlight

Addressing whether he felt any hesitation about joining a franchise long associated with Ajay Devgn, Akshay dismissed the idea entirely.

“Mera role badhiya hai Golmaal mein but Ajay’s the hero. I’ve no insecurity. Uski koi zaroorat nahi hai.”

He also responded to Ajay Devgn’s playful remark, “koi bhi franchise nahi chhodta hai”, saying:

“But isn’t it a great thing? It’s nice that whenever there’s any franchise, they want me.”

Star-Studded Cast and Franchise Legacy

Directed by Rohit Shetty, Golmaal 5 marks the fifth installment of one of Bollywood’s most successful comedy franchises. The film reunites key cast members including Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Kemmu, and Shreyas Talpade.

Notably, Sharman Joshi returns to the franchise after nearly two decades, having appeared in the original 2006 film Golmaal: Fun Unlimited. Akshay Kumar’s addition has further heightened anticipation, especially after he appeared in the announcement video sporting a bald look that quickly grabbed attention.

The film also reunites Akshay and Ajay following their recent collaboration in Singham Again.

Shoot Begins as Franchise Turns 20

Rohit Shetty recently confirmed that filming for Golmaal 5 has commenced. Sharing the update, he reflected on the franchise’s journey, which began in 2006 and has entertained audiences for nearly two decades.

The original Golmaal: Fun Unlimited laid the foundation for a successful series known for its ensemble cast and slapstick humor, eventually becoming one of India’s most popular comedy franchises.

Akshay Kumar on Career Choices and Milestone Year

As he completes 35 years in the film industry, Akshay Kumar spoke about his evolving approach to selecting roles.

“I see fresh scripts and ideas coming to me all the time. Main yeh dekhna chahta hoon ki main kya alag kar sakta hoon.”

Reflecting on his journey, he acknowledged both successes and setbacks, including phases with multiple box office failures. He also highlighted how some films came to him after being rejected by others, citing examples like Toilet: Ek Prem Katha and OMG 2.

Akshay will next be seen in Bhooth Bangla, marking another addition to his diverse filmography.

Akshay Kumar’s inclusion in Golmaal 5 adds fresh energy to the beloved franchise, even as he makes it clear that Ajay Devgn remains its central hero. With a returning ensemble cast, a milestone year for the series, and Rohit Shetty at the helm, the film is shaping up to be a major Bollywood entertainer.
