Golmaal 5 Begins Production in Mumbai

The fifth installment of Rohit Shetty’s successful comedy franchise has officially gone on floors. Filming for Golmaal 5 commenced in Mumbai on February 23, 2026, with the first schedule expected to run for approximately a month.

Director Rohit Shetty began shooting with principal cast members present on set. Longtime franchise lead Ajay Devgn is slated to join the shoot on February 25, continuing his association with the series that began nearly two decades ago.

The production is currently underway across Mumbai, including at Film City, where multiple sets have reportedly been erected for the film.

Priyamani Joins the Ensemble

Actor Priyamani has joined the cast of Golmaal 5, marking her first full-fledged collaboration with Ajay Devgn. She previously appeared in a special dance number in Chennai Express and is widely known for her role in the Amazon Prime Video series The Family Man.

Details about her character in Golmaal 5 remain undisclosed, though reports confirm she has already begun filming her portions.

Returning Cast and New Additions

The film reunites several core members of the franchise, including Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Kemmu, and Shreyas Talpade. Supporting regulars Johnny Lever, Sanjay Mishra, Mukesh Tiwari, and Ashwini Kalsekar are also set to reprise their roles.

Reports suggest that Akshay Kumar may join the ensemble for a comic face-off with Devgn, potentially in an antagonistic role. However, the makers have not issued an official confirmation regarding his involvement.

Actor Sharman Joshi is also reportedly returning to the franchise after nearly 20 years, having appeared in the original film.

Meanwhile, it has been clarified that Kareena Kapoor Khan will not be part of the fifth installment.

Makers Refute Remake Rumours

Ahead of production, speculation surfaced that Golmaal 5 was inspired by the 1980 comedy Do Aur Do Paanch starring Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor. Rohit Shetty’s production banner issued a formal clarification denying these claims.

The statement read:

“We wish to issue a strict clarification regarding certain news reports currently circulating across online and digital media platforms claiming that Golmaal 5 is inspired by or based on the film ‘Do Aur Do Paanch’. We categorically state that these reports are factually incorrect, misleading and completely untrue. We strongly request all media houses, publications, portals, and digital platforms to refrain from publishing or circulating unverified information.”

The production house further emphasized that any official updates must be verified with its team or designated PR representatives prior to publication.

A Franchise Marking Two Decades

The Golmaal franchise began with Golmaal: Fun Unlimited in 2006 and has since expanded into one of Hindi cinema’s most commercially successful comedy series. Over four films, the franchise has reportedly grossed more than ₹600 crore worldwide.

Now entering its 20th year, the fifth installment is being positioned as the most ambitious chapter yet, with a larger scale and ensemble-driven storytelling that retains its trademark slapstick humor and chaotic misunderstandings.

While an official release date has not been announced, the film is targeting a theatrical release in early 2027.
