Rohit Shetty House Firing: Five Detained in Pune, Probe Points to Lawrence Bishnoi Gang Link

Mumbai Police are investigating a firing incident outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in the Juhu area after at least five gunshots were fired at his building in the early hours of Sunday. Five persons have been detained in Pune in connection with the case, with the preliminary investigation suggesting their links to Shubham Lonkar, an alleged associate of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and an accused in the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique.
Shots Fired at Juhu Residence
According to police officials, the incident occurred around 12.45 am at the nine-storey residential building where Rohit Shetty lives. At least five rounds were fired at the first floor of the building, and one bullet struck the glass of a gym located inside the premises. No injuries were reported.
Police said it was initially unclear whether the filmmaker was present at home at the time of the firing. Security at the building was immediately increased as a precautionary measure.
Five Detained, Handed Over to Mumbai Police
Following the incident, Mumbai Police traced the suspects to Pune. Five men were detained by personnel from the Warje Malwadi police station and later handed over to the Mumbai Crime Branch.
The detained individuals have been identified as Aman Marote (27) and Aditya Gayaki (19), residents of Karve Nagar, and Siddharth Yenpure (20), Samarth Pomaji (18), and Swapnil Sakat (23), residents of Dhayari. Police officials said some of them are suspected to have provided logistical support to the shooters.
Four of the accused have been produced before a Mumbai court and remanded to police custody till February 5. Shubham Lonkar remains absconding.
Threatening Social Media Post Under Scrutiny
A few hours after the firing, a threatening post surfaced on social media, allegedly claiming responsibility for the attack. The post, written in Hindi, was shared from an account bearing the names “Shubham Lonkar and Arzoo Bishnoi,” officials said.
The message warned that the firing was “just a trailer” and threatened more serious consequences if the filmmaker did not comply with unspecified demands. It also mentioned the names of other alleged Bishnoi gang operatives. Police said the authenticity of the post and its connection to the detained suspects are being verified.
Case Registered, Investigation Ongoing
A case has been registered under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for attempt to murder, along with sections of the Arms Act. Juhu Police and Mumbai Crime Branch teams are jointly investigating the matter.
CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being examined, while forensic science and ballistic experts have collected evidence from the scene. Police officials said further arrests are likely as the investigation progresses.

Past Bollywood Firing Incidents That Shocked the Industry
Bollywood has seen a troubling rise in firing incidents involving celebrities in recent years, raising serious concerns about safety and security. The latest case involves filmmaker Rohit Shetty, whose Mumbai residence in Juhu was targeted by gunfire on January 31, 2026. No injuries were reported, but the incident prompted a major police investigation and heightened security, with suspected links to associates of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
This incident adds to a list of high-profile cases, including the 2024 firing outside Salman Khan’s Bandra home, which was later claimed by the Bishnoi gang. Similar attacks have targeted the family home of actress Disha Patani in Bareilly, social media personality Elvish Yadav in Gurugram, and Punjabi singer AP Dhillon in Canada. Comedian Kapil Sharma has also faced gunfire outside his restaurant abroad.
While most incidents have not resulted in casualties, they highlight a growing pattern of real-world threats against film industry figures and underline increasing concerns over celebrity security in India and overseas.
