Actor says serious on-set injury was only a brief setback, not the reason behind his reduced screen presence

Vivek Oberoi Clarifies Long-Standing Speculation

Actor Vivek Oberoi has firmly denied claims that a serious on-set accident in 2004 forced him to quit Bollywood or limited his ability to perform physically demanding roles. Addressing years of speculation around his reduced screen presence, the actor issued a detailed statement clarifying that the incident was serious but did not derail his acting career.

The injury occurred while he was shooting for Yuva (2004), leading many to assume it marked the beginning of his exit from the industry.

‘The Accident Was Serious, But Not Career-Ending’

In his statement, Vivek acknowledged the severity of the incident but dismissed claims linking it to his professional trajectory.

“There has been discussion suggesting that an accident on set affected my ability to perform physically demanding roles, implying that it led to me leaving the industry. The accident was serious. I sustained multiple fractures and underwent surgery, including the insertion of an 18-inch titanium rod in my leg,”

Recovery and Return to Full Mobility

Vivek described the recovery process as physically and mentally challenging but credited his medical team for helping him return to full fitness within months.

“Thanks to Dr Ali Irani, former physiotherapist for the Indian Cricket Team and Head of Physiotherapy at Nanavati Hospital, and his team, I was able to regain full mobility in about three months,”

he said, adding that he was soon able to dance and perform action sequences without limitations.

‘The Setback Didn’t Slow My Career’

Calling the accident a “blip” rather than a turning point, Vivek pointed to his post-recovery body of work as proof that his physical capabilities remained intact.

He went on to perform demanding roles in films such as Omkara (2006), Shootout at Lokhandwala (2007), Mission Istanbul (2008), Prince (2010), Krrish 3 (2013), and several other action-heavy projects.

“Looking back, the accident was but a brief interruption in what continues to be a fulfilling career,” the actor said.

Trainer’s Comments and Official Clarification

The clarification comes after comments by celebrity trainer Vinod Channa, who suggested the accident and injuries contributed to Vivek appearing in fewer films. Responding to this, Vivek’s representative reiterated that the actor made a **full recovery** and continued to perform stunts, action scenes, and dance routines without restriction in multiple films after 2004.

Career Beyond Acting and Upcoming Projects

Vivek Oberoi, who debuted with Ram Gopal Varma’s Company (2002) and won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut, has also built a successful business career over the years.

On the acting front, he will next be seen in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana and Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit, alongside Prabhas. He was last seen in Mastiii 4 (2025).

Conclusion

By directly addressing the rumours, Vivek Oberoi has clarified that his 2004 accident neither ended his Bollywood career nor limited his physical abilities. While his film appearances may have reduced over time, the actor maintains that the injury was never the defining factor — and his post-accident filmography stands as evidence.
